Hebrew SchoolSunday School At Temple Beth El, we are proud of our longstanding tradition of Sunday school, where we teach a wide variety of subjects and provide our children with background and knowledge of what it means to be Jewish. We offer classes from pre-school age up to B’nai Mitzvah, personalized Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring, and, new this year, a confirmation class for older students. Subjects include Hebrew, Jewish history, values, traditions, holidays, life-cycle events, service structure, art, and music. Special events such as Hannukah parties and Purim carnivals provide opportunities for fun; and at community events like dinner in the Succah, TuB’Shevat and Passover model seders the children get to participate in the customs and traditions celebrated by Jews throughout the world. Classes are small and children are able to learn at their own ability levels. Sunday school is held from 10 to 12 every Sunday at Temple Beth El in Hammonton. For further information email our
Confirmation ClassWe are happy to announce that this year, for the first time, Temple Beth El is offering a once a month confirmation class for teenagers age 13 through 16. Teens with varying levels of Jewish background are invited to continue their Jewish education. Led by Abby, our Student Rabbi and educator, the course will provide an opportunity for teens to build and maintain relationships with other Jewish teenagers while strenghening connections to Jewish tradition, community and Judaism as a life path. The first part of the course will focus on Jewish Sources of Comfort. The class will explore Judaism’s rich array of resources, including ancient texts, prayer, music, rituals and values that can provide comfort and support in coping with contemporary challenges such as relationships, self-esteem, substance abuse and life’s daily stressors. The final choice of issues and sources to be discussed will reflect students’ interests. Class will meet monthly for ten months. Participants will be encouraged to participate for two years, leading up to a confirmation ceremony at the conclusion of two years. Prospective confirmants will be encouraged to study towards a Bar Mitzvah ceremony prior to confirmation, if they have not already had one. As family involvment is an important component of walking a Jewish path, membership at Temple Beth El or another community synagogue will be expected for continued program participation.
