Approaching Judaisim with Tradition and Innovation

Temple Beth-El

642 Bellevue Avenue, Hammonton, NJ 08037

Temple Beth El has been serving the needs of the Jewish Community in South Jersey with a blend of tradition and innovation since 1932. Located in the beautiful residential section of Hammonton, NJ, our diverse congregation is filled with members who value Jewish beliefs and have a strong commitment both to tradition and to the search for contemporary meaning. Our community embraces an inclusive and egalitarian approach to Judaism. We welcome Jews from a variety of backgrounds as well as non-traditional and interfaith families.

Affiliated with Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, members of our congregation are not mere observers, but active participants at the very center of Jewish communal life. The essence of Reconstructionist Judaism is community building through learning, revitalization of prayer and mutual help. Reconstructionist communities welcome members from a variety of life situations, backgrounds, political and religious perspectives. Each person brings to the community unique talents and needs. Individuals choose levels of involvement comfortable for themselves. Reconstructionist congregations encourage Jews to make informed decisions about their personal and religious lives. The rabbi is a key resource person, teacher and personal advisor. Jewish education enables community members to thrive in a democratic partnership with their rabbi.

Our religious leader, Abby Michaleski, is enrolled as a student rabbi in the ALEPH: Alliance For Jewish Renewal Rabbinic program.

Temple Beth El has monthly Friday night services that creatively combine traditional prayers and melodies with contemporary interpretation and music. Services are a combination of Hebrew and English. In many ways, it is a comfortable get together with family and friends.

Our Hebrew school is unique in that our classes are small and meet once weekly, yet educate and foster a deep connection to Judaism with our children.

We pride ourselves on our active participation and enjoy numerous events together, both inside and outside the synagogue.

Our members span the entire South Jersey area, including Camden, Burlington, and Atlantic Counties.
